Got it. This is a reasonable way to go.

Yep, that seems to work.

I wanted to duplicate the functionality outside the build directory (removing some of the build cruft) and installing libtool from apt-get, but that failed. Using your libtool worked. Which leads to the question: what's the difference between the custom libtool and the generic one?
